Some of the most important questions you’ll ever ask yourself are questions like “What is my life purpose?” “What do I really want to do with my life?” or “Why am I here?”
The most successful people in the world are those who spend the most time thinking about who they are and where they are going. They reevaluate their progress as it relates to who want to be and what they want most out of life. They spend their days working towards their goals.
What is my Life Purpose?
The starting point to great success is for you to realize that you are amazing! Think about it – there has never been another person in the universe just like you, and there never will be. You have talents, skills, and ideas that make you completely unique. You have the capacity to do big things with your life. You have the ability within you, RIGHT NOW, to accomplish all of your goals – no matter what they are.
You are engineered perfectly to go after your dream. No one else is wired just like you. Pretty cool, right?
The Ultimate Tragedy
The biggest tragedy in the world is that most people go through their lives and die with all of that passion still locked inside. They respond to all of the external pressures of life and allow their dreams to become buried somewhere deep down in their souls. These people were too busy reacting to parents, spouses, bosses or bills, money, responsibilities. They never took the time to sit down and think about what their life purpose was or what they really wanted out of life.
You Were Meant for Something Wonderful
I believe that each of us has a life purpose. We were put on this earth to do something wonderful. Our job is to figure out what that wonderful thing is….and then throw our heart and energy into doing it…and doing it well.
If you still aren’t on board with me, you are lacking the one characteristic that successful people possess….clarity. The happiest and most successful people are absolutely clear about what they stand for and believe in. They know where they are going and why they are going there. They know their life purpose. And you need this clarity as well.
Be Clear Why You are Here
It took me awhile to figure out why I was put on this earth. Before I did, I was by some definition…successful. I made great money. I had a nice home. But I was drifting through life. I knew I wasn’t doing what I was passionate about. Once I figured out my purpose, my life instantly become fulfilling.
Without a purpose in life, it is easy to drift. You get sidetracked. You accomplish little.
But when you have a life purpose, things just fall into place. You start living on purpose.
For a long time I didn’t think this was true, but now I believe in it wholeheartedly. When you are truly and passionately living on purpose, all of those resources and opportunities you need to succeed naturally gravitate toward you. All of those things that held you back in the beginning just seem to work themselves out. But it only starts to happen when you are living in true alignment with your life purpose.
You Don’t Have to Solve World Hunger
There is a common misconception that in order to live a life of purpose, you have to solve world hunger or start a big charity to raise millions of dollars towards a cause. Those are noble things, of course, but there are so many of us that can find and live our life purpose without moving to Africa or even quitting our jobs. Sometimes our true calling in life is right under our noses. When you find your life purpose, you will unlock the ultimate fuel to living a meaningful life.
You may not solve childhood illiteracy, but you can find purpose in reading to your children every day.
You may not bring happiness to third world countries, but you can bring happiness to the people you see every day (employees, customers, friends and family). All it may take is a smile or a kind word.
You may not solve the obesity epidemic in the US, but you can inspire people all around you by being healthy and steadfast in your health goals. You can be a role model to your children and those who see how dedicated you are.
You can make a big difference every single day. You can touch the hearts of thousands of people and live a meaningful and purposeful life.
Success doesn’t mean that you are worth billions of dollars. Success doesn’t mean you are on TV.
Success comes in many forms. Success means that you are living a life with purpose. For example…
- A bus driver who knows her life purpose is helping the kids she interacts with stay off of drugs.
- A tax consultant whose life purpose is rescuing and fostering abandoned pit bulls after work and on the weekends.
- An office assistant who worked her way up to one of the chief officer positions in her company.
- A manager at McDonalds who makes thousands of people smile each day with a smile and a quick joke.
- A stay at home mother who stays up late at night writing because she knows her life purpose is to inspire people through her blog.
- The CEO of a large company who uses her position to advocate helping young women advance in technical careers.
- A teacher who is completely fulfilled because she loves doing what she was put on this earth to do – fill those little kids with knowledge. She knows she will never be rich because of her job, but her wealth is on a different level.
The list goes on and on. These people are truly successful and happy. Their lives are fulfilling…whether they are rich or not.
Your Journey will be as Unique as You Are
So please never think that you cannot live your life purpose in your current job or your current situation. In any job and in any situation, our purpose is waiting for us to find it.
For some people – yes – success will involve making more money.
For some people – yes – success will involve changing career paths abruptly.
For some people – yes – success will involve starting a charity and moving to Africa.
For some people – yes – success will involve becoming a famous actress in Hollywood.
Everyone’s journey will be different, and that is what makes it so magical and unique. Everyone has a different purpose in life. It is your job to find out what yours is and then throw your heart into it.
It doesn’t have to make you rich. You don’t have to come out looking like a supermodel. You will have to work hard, and it won’t always be easy. But once you find your purpose, it will all make so much sense.
For example…I left a job that I was making GOOD money. I am pursuing my passion to help other women achieve success, but I am not making my salary that I had before. While replacing my previous income is certainly a goal of mine that I plan to achieve, money is not my motivation. I love what I am doing now. I found my life purpose. I know I’ll be happier than I ever was before, even if I am never wealthy from it.
I can’t tell you what your purpose is, but I can help you find it. I can help you make the changes you need to succeed in creating a life that completely fulfills you. I can help you create goals and completely crush them.
Because when you are filled with your true calling (your life purpose), you will tap into an endless supply of motivation and energy. The resources you need to fulfill your destiny will find you.
Where do I start?
If you are one of the many people who has not found their purpose in life, stay tuned. Know that you are not alone. Know that it is never too late to get started.
